THRACE SULTAN'S ROAD

sultan5.png

The Sultans Road, used by Suleiman the Magnificent during the siege of Vienna, is one of the walking routes that have attracted the attention of travelers in recent years.

The 2,100-kilometer Sultans Road route, which starts from Vienna, the capital of Austria, ends in Istanbul.

Those who follow the route starting from Vienna cross 9 countries: Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey.

Sultans Road became active in 2010 with the signs of Sedat Çakır, President of the Sufi Road Foundation. Edirne Nature Sports Club Association also contributed to the 390 kilometer marking of Edirne, Kırklareli and Istanbul.

Those departing from Vienna enter the Turkish part of the Sultans Road from Kapıkule Border Gate after crossing European countries.

Those who pass through many villages in Edirne also meet the smiling people of Thrace. Some of them serve the travelers without the flatbread they make, some of them buy tea in the village coffee house. The route ends at Süleymaniye Mosque in Istanbul.

Çakır explained that all those who made the tour of the Sultans Road were very happy.

"The best part of traveling on foot or by bicycle is that it costs around 50 euros per day instead of staying in a 5-star hotel. It is very important for the villages. People on the tour prefer to stay in the village and eat and drink. It is also very important in terms of rural development in terms of sustainable tourism. They see Edirne in time. They get the opportunity to get to know the historical artifacts of the city on site. The route is more known in Europe. It is not yet fully known in Turkey. Maybe it may not be very attractive because it is close.
